Most popular living room colours for 2025

Date:04/03/2025

The most popular living room colours this year have been revealed with grey, green, and blue top of the list.

Recent search data analysis shows that, on the whole, we are largely committed to a classic colour palette in our living spaces, with only a few of us making bolder choices.

However, some daring options do appear on the list, like cheerful yellow, which is only expected to grow in popularity after Dulux named the vibrant shade True Joy it is Colour of the Year 2025.

After looking closely at the search volume, we can reveal the top 13 most popular living room colours this year are:-

  1. Green

  2. Dark green

  3. Grey

  4. Blue

  5. Black

  6. Beige

  7. White

  8. Teal

  9. Navy

  10. Pink

  11. Yellow

  12. Red

  13. Cream

1. Green

The ultimate in nature-inspired decoration, green is the most popular colour to paint your living room this year. The versatility of green makes it a bit of a gift in interior design but doesn't make it easier to narrow down your choice of colour combination. You can't go far wrong pairing with other earthy colours – this colourful Edwardian home in Surrey has introduced browns, mustard yellows and some neutrals, accenting with a mid-blue.

2. Dark green

Deep forest greens offer just enough colour without the commitment of bolder brights.

A botanical shade like forest green can transport you to the countryside. Look to nature to complete your colour palette – stone grey and earthy brown are both failsafe options.

3. Grey

It is considerably easier to embrace the natural characteristics of your home rather than fight against them. If you have little natural light or particularly low ceilings, it can be worth leaning into the moodiness of it all with a wash of grey on your walls.

4. Blue

When you introduce a heavy dose of blue into your living room colour scheme, there can be a tendency to pare back decoration elsewhere. It's certainly not the only design route, as you can see here adding rust reds, warm mustard shades and oodles of pattern makes for a warm and inviting space.

5. Black

Despite being one of the boldest of design decisions, black living rooms are proving more popular than classic cream. Decorating with black will naturally take a bit more consideration, but as a general rule of thumb, we would always be inclined to use an off-black – one that leans towards graphite grey, or with an undertone of blue – with a subtle sheen to better catch natural light.

6. Beige

The warmest neutral on our list, beige is a great choice if you want a light but cocooning colour for your living room. Pale pastels may not be an instinctive colour pairing here, but we love how fresh and uplifting this room looks.

7. White

A much-maligned colour for parents and pet owners, but one that is hard to beat in a country living room. White can look stark or overly pristine, but that is easily offset by introducing warming and natural elements like wood, linen, jute or wool.

8. Teal

Green-toned blues offer a bit more warmth than mid or light-blues, an effect that can be further pronounced with the use of burnt orange or shades of reds. Teal is a particularly good choice if you tend to decorate with antiques as it sits so well with traditional woods such as mahogany or walnut.

9. Navy

If you're decorating with a rich navy, take your design cues from this characterful country living room with bespoke bookshelves. A rich navy can look inky or even black without adequate natural light, but an abundance of bright accessories helps. Note too that the paint is taken up onto the ceiling and even matched in the sweet velvet curtain – a case for colour-drenching smaller living rooms for a cocooning effect.

10. Pink

Pink has been slowly creeping back into interiors alongside a palette of warm sunset shades like yellow and orange. Colour has an immense power to influence our mood. Plaster pink brings a warm, earthy softness while remaining easy to live with – I consider this colour an elevated neutral.

11. Yellow

The most cheerful entry on our list of most popular living room colours, and a deceptively versatile one. When we think of yellow, we think of hazy summer days, ripe and zesty lemons, and vibrant sunflowers. So much of yellow is tied to nature’s finest and most familiar offerings.

12. Red

Red is such an inviting colour for a living room, but it can be tricky to live with if used in big blocks. A quilt is hung here as a lovely alternative to paint or wallpaper, offering a gentler approach to using bold colours.

13. Cream

Classic cream came in 13th place, perhaps indicative of a move away from neutrals. Cream certainly doesn't have to be plain, however, if you just consider it a base from which to build a richer living room colour scheme. It's a brilliant option for homes with lots of antiques or reclaimed furniture as it works so well with dark woods.
